Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick Corporation, has introduced a new V10 425hp Verado outboard engine and an upgraded version of its V10 350hp Verado model.

The launch extends Mercury’s Verado outboard lineup and adds new high-horsepower options for both repower and new-build applications.

The new 425hp engine offers performance characteristics aimed at improving acceleration, reducing weight and increasing electrical output. According to Mercury’s internal testing, the model is three seconds faster from 0–30 mph than a 450hp competitor when fitted to a 26-foot, 5,000-pound centre-console boat carrying a heavy load. It is also 254 pounds lighter than the same 450hp competitor (based on 25-inch XL models) and operates at 22 per cent lower noise levels at cruise. The engine is equipped with a 150-amp alternator, which Mercury states is the highest output in its class.

Mercury has also enhanced the performance of its existing 350hp Verado. The updated version delivers a 2.7 mph higher top speed than a 350hp competitor in light-load conditions, as well as improved acceleration: four seconds faster from 0–30 mph and nearly 18 seconds faster from 0 to top speed in heavy-load configurations. It also produces four times more alternator output at cruise than the 350hp competitor and is 40 per cent quieter at cruise. Compared to Mercury’s current 350hp model, it provides 15 per cent quicker acceleration from 0–50 mph due to enhanced mid-range torque.

Both engines are built on Mercury’s V10 platform and have a 26-inch centre-to-centre mounting spacing, making them compatible with existing installations, including boats previously rigged with L6 Verado engines or other competitive outboards.

Digital Throttle & Shift is included as standard on both the new 425hp and the upgraded 350hp engines. Joystick Piloting is also available. The two new models, along with the current 400hp outboard, are now offered through Mercury dealers and Repower Centres.

“These new V10 Verado engines reflect our commitment to giving boaters exactly what they’ve asked for: greater performance with the same smooth, refined experience they expect from Mercury,” says John Buelow, Mercury Marine president. “With this launch, we’re raising the bar in the high-horsepower category and reaffirming the Verado family’s position as the pinnacle of premium outboard performance.”
