Marina firm D-Marin is continuing its digital-first approach with the wider rollout of its Smart Pedestal technology across its network.
Designed to give berth holders more control and convenience, these pedestals allow users to manage their electricity and water usage remotely, through the D-Marin App or by scanning a QR code.
Now installed at over 2,500 locations across the D-Marin portfolio, the Smart Pedestals are built from UV-resistant, corrosion-proof HDPE, which is fully recyclable. The firm emphasises that this aligns with its broader environmental commitments and digital transformation strategy, toward a more self-service infrastructure.
By enabling real-time monitoring and instant payments, the Smart Pedestals significantly reduce the need for in-person visits to marina offices, which D-Marin describes as making way for a “faster, self-managed process.”
According to the group, more than 85 per cent of electricity invoices are now processed digitally, and the app registers more than 2,000 remote connections or disconnections daily.
User feedback reflects the uptake, with over 90 per cent of customers citing time savings and improved convenience. One regular captain at D-Marin Zea Marina noted how the system “has made a huge difference.”
“Our Smart Pedestals are about giving customers autonomy while reducing complexity. They offer faster service, better transparency, and a smarter way to manage resources, all while supporting our sustainability goals. We’re pleased to see that customers are using the Smart Pedestals and finding this service enhances their time spent at marinas,” comments Matthias Gehring, chief digital officer at D-Marin.
The Smart Pedestal initiative sits alongside recent other digital upgrades within the group’s portfolio, including the integration of smart sensor technology powered by Sense4Boat, which offers 24/7 vessel monitoring.
D-Marin’s smart infrastructure is part of a wider push toward digital-first services within its marina network, which spans the Mediterranean and Gulf regions and includes over 14,000 berths.
