The Dutch royal yacht Piet Hein has been formally added to the Feadship Heritage Fleet. The induction ceremony took place during the recent edition of Sail Amsterdam (20-24 August 2025), with representatives from the National Maritime Museum, Sail, Stichting Piet Hein (Piet Hein Foundation), Feadship and the Feadship Heritage Fleet board present.
The Feadship Heritage Fleet is an association of classic Feadship owners whose yachts are at least 30 years old.
Piet Hein, a 31-metre motor yacht, was gifted by the Dutch people to Princess Juliana and Prince Bernhard in 1937 to commemorate their wedding. The yacht was designed by naval architect Henri W. de Voogt, whose work influenced Dutch yachtbuilding and contributed to Feadship’s early development.
Since 1980, the yacht has been maintained by Stichting Piet Hein (Piet Hein Foundation) with support from volunteers. During the ceremony, membership was confirmed through the signing of a certificate and the placement of the Feadship Heritage Fleet insignia on board.

“This is the unifying mission of the 85 members of our fleet: to safeguard these unique vessels for future generations,” says Wim van Kampen, chairman of the Feadship Heritage Fleet.
In recognition of its historical significance, Piet Hein has been named flagship of the Feadship Heritage Fleet. Following the ceremony, the yacht led 35 fleet members into Amsterdam during the sail-in of Sail Amsterdam, which took place from 20-24 August 2025.
