Propspeed introduces Foulfree Multi-Surface System

Propspeed has introduced the Foulfree Multi-Surface System, a biocide-free foul-release coating designed for use on a range of surface types and vessel components. The coating extends the company’s technology to applications including outboard skegs, stabilisation systems, thrusters, fins and RIB tubes.

New Zealand-based Propspeed says the system is engineered to adhere to various substrates, including painted aluminium, plastic, nylon and composites, plus provides adhesion and durability for underwater components in both saltwater and freshwater environments. The coating applies clear for a discreet finish below the waterline.

“The marine industry continues to push forward with innovations that provide boaters greater confidence, comfort and performance when out on the water,” says Marcus Hamilton, CEO, Propspeed. “Yet, the very components that make this possible, such as thrusters, stabilising systems, outboard skegs and RIB tubes, face constant threats from marine growth that can compromise efficiency and effectiveness.

“The new Foulfree Multi-Surface System is engineered to keep fouling from adhering to these critical components and safeguarding optimal performance all season long.”

The system is available in two kit sizes, Small and Medium. Each kit includes all required components for application. With a 10-minute overcoat window at 20°C and a full cure time of 12 hours, the product allows vessels to return to the water the next day.

Propspeed’s coatings are used to prevent marine growth from adhering to underwater metals such as propellers and running gear. The Foulfree Multi-Surface System extends this protection to components that previously required antifouling paints.

The product is being presented for the first time at IBEX, which runs until today (9 October 2025) at the Tampa Convention Center. Visitors can find Propspeed at booth 3-2114.

Propspeed’s product range includes Propspeed for running gear and underwater metals, Foulfree for transducers, Lightspeed for underwater lights and Stripspeed, a remover for foul-release coatings.

According to industry estimates, biofouling increases drag and costs the global shipping industry about $7.5bn annually in wasted fuel.

In March 2025, Propspeed announced a partnership with The International SeaKeepers Society (SeaKeepers), a Monaco-based non-profit that facilitates oceanographic research aboard private vessels. The initiative focuses on promoting sustainable practices within the yachting sector, including the use of Propspeed’s biocide-free, foul-release coatings designed to reduce emissions and minimise environmental impact.
