RAD Propulsion, a UK-based developer of electric marine propulsion systems, has expanded into the US with the opening of an office in Charleston, South Carolina.
The company says the move forms part of its plan to support growing demand for sustainable propulsion technologies in North America. The firm also recently expanded its international dealer network with new partnerships in the Netherlands, India and Japan.
The US expansion builds on existing partnerships, including RAD’s collaboration with Zodiac of North America, a manufacturer of inflatable and rigid-hull inflatable boats.
“Establishing a base in Charleston is an important milestone for RAD,” says Simon Payne, sales director at RAD Propulsion. “It not only strengthens our ability to support customers across North America but also symbolises the growth of RAD as we build a dedicated team in the US to accelerate the adoption of our technology.”
RAD Propulsion designs and produces electric drives and robotic control systems engineered for a range of marine conditions. Its systems are designed to reduce emissions and noise while maintaining performance.
Justin Antolini, commercial sales director of Zodiac of North America, says: “Working with RAD Propulsion has been a fantastic experience. Their cutting-edge electric propulsion systems are a perfect fit for Zodiac Milpro’s mission to innovate and deliver sustainable solutions to our customers from sectors such as expedition cruise and defence. We’re excited to continue building this partnership as they expand into the North American market.”
The company’s growing US client base also includes Charleston-based Volare boats.
As part of its US launch, RAD Propulsion is exhibiting at IBEX 2025 (International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition & Conference) in Tampa, Florida, this week.
In September 2025, RAD Propulsion formed a strategic commercial partnership with Arksen, a leader in sustainable marine vessel design. The two companies will co-develop a range of vessel propulsion platforms, combining Arksen’s vessel architecture with RAD Propulsion’s next-gen electric drive and autonomy systems.
